This December 21, 1973 black and white picture of the Comet Kohoutek was taken from the Skylab space station while in Earth orbit, by a Skylab 4 mission astronaut.
The second picture of the Kohoutek comet was taken on January 11, 1974 by the University of Arizona’s lunar and planetary laboratory photographic team, at the Catalina observatory. The once highly hyped Comet Kohoutek was considered a disappointment, having failed to achieve a memorable display from Earth. Kohoutek is a very long period comet and will not make another appearance for about 75,000 years.
